Most of our daily activities are products of habits. Many of these habits serve of us well, but everyone has habits they either want to change or want to build.
Today I am starting a 30-Day Challenge to build what I am calling a PowerHabit based on the work of John-Roger DSS who wrote Living the Spiritual Principles of Health and Well-Being.
JOIN ME in the Challenge!
As I experience this 30-day journey, I will share the strategies with you so you can participate by building your own habit. I will also add little twists along the way adapting the strategy in my own way. I will also share different sections of the book that could be useful to you during a specific day. If you’d like, you can purchase the book Living the Spiritual Principles of Health and Well-Being but having the book is not necessary for this challenge.
Day 1: Step 1
The first step in the challenge is thinking about something that I want to change, something that would have significant change in my life. Much of John-Roger’s book relates to health and spiritual well-being.
When I first read the book, I put it aside because I had the incorrect idea that the habit I had to choose needed to be stereotypically related to health or developing spirituality. Nah, I thought, this is not anything I wanted to focus on at the moment. (Although, of course, many of us have developing health and spirituality as one of our long-term goals.)
Today, though, I am adding my own twist and approaching this challenge by thinking of the habit I want to develop in broader terms. It doesn’t have to deal particularly with health or spirituality.
This habit I am choosing will be one which will serve me well in different aspects of my life. I don’t need to choose the habit today. I just need to think about the different habits that I could work on. I have a mental list.
For the first day of the challenge, John-Roger urges us “to make one small, significant, meaningful step” and the goal is to sustain and maintain this new habit for the rest of our lives.
So what small step do you have in mind?
Whatever it is, our objective is to keep it in mind through these 30 days. We don’t need to commit to anything right this moment and we will be trying it on during the 30 days. The exercises over the 30 days will help us find clarity. At the end of the 30 days, we will commit to the new direction.
