I have always enjoyed reflection as an activity because it is introspective.

I didn’t realize until I became an educator that reflection is critical for the learning process. It allows us to think back to those activities which have been beneficial for us so we can continue doing them. We can also identify what has been difficult or detrimental so we can either modify or eliminate those things from our lives.

As a coach, I’ve come to understand how reflection is also critical for our sense of well-being. Identifying and choosing the activities we want to continue committing our energy to gives us a sense of empowerment and control. A feeling of relief and a release of stress can come when we acknowledge and let go of whatever is not beneficial.

Reflection as an end-of-the-year activity is extremely beneficial and part of being successful and happy. We look back at year and feel grateful for what it has brought because we can learn from it and then make a decision to release it if we no longer want it in our lives.

Writing an end-of-the-year post is also a fun tradition in the blogosphere!

So here are four great things that 2012 has brought:

1. I committed to making my own opportunities by going into and launching my coaching business.

2. I have reconnected with some wonderful people who keep me motivated.

3. I have become more involved with my kids by volunteering in their organizations.

4. I became part of a great professional group of coaches from all over the world.

This year feels like a preparation for what is to come.

Next year will be all about being BOLD and taking more BOLD LEAPS. Next, I’ll write about the next step after reflection which is critical for success and well-being–goal-setting.

Have you thought about your goals and vision for 2013!
